LU, US-based foundation sign MoU

The Lucknow University will sign a MoU with the USA-based Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation (VGCF) for establishing two institutes in the university.

LUCKNOW: The Lucknow University will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the USA-based Vinod Gupta Charitable Foundation (VGCF) for establishing two institutes in the university dedicated to study and research in subjects like democracy and public health.
This was decided at a meeting on Monday chaired by LU V-C RP Singh. The meeting was attended by VGCF representatives Air Marshal (Retd) AK Singh and Gen (Retd) MM Narang.

It was agreed that the foundation will spend over Rs 4 crore for constructing the building with all the latest facilities for running the two academic institutes.
It was also decided that though formal ceremony of signing the MoU will be held later this year when VGCF chairman Vinod Gupta would be visiting the university, but the construction work will start as early as possible by next month.
Vinod Gupta is non-resident Indian and CEO of US-based software company Info-USA. He will be visiting India in the third week of November.
The two institutes will be named as — Dr SD Sharma Institute of Democracy (DSDSID) and Dr GL Gupta Institute of Public Health (DGLIPH).
One academic programme each — diploma in democracy and diploma in health and hygiene — will be launched by the two institutes respectively from the coming session.

The team visited the second campus where the institutes are proposed to be constructed.
Manoj Dixit, university spokesman and director, Institute of Publication and Public Relation, said that besides diploma programme, the university plans to start specialised post-graduate courses in the two proposed institutes within next three years.
The two institutes will also conduct research and training programmes.
