FAIZABAD: Residents of a village in Bahraich district torched a leopard alive on Sunday after it killed woman on Saturday.
As per reports, the leopard had killed the woman and partly ate her body while she was guarding her farmland. This was the fourth attack by the big cat in May.
Talking to TOI, Bahraich district forest officer JP Singh, said: “The incident took place in Kartaniya Ghat reserve forest area in Bahraich district, when a female leopard along with its two cubs attacked Kaushalya Devi (65).
The leopard and cubs killed the woman and partially ate the body, however they were forced to flee when lots of villagers armed with wooden sticks chased them."
Talking to TOI, Brahmanand Singh, SHO of Ramgaon police station, told TOI: “After the contineous attacks of leopard, the villagers were so enraged that they set the forest area, where the leopard was hiding, on fire on Sunday morning.
Having suffered severe burn injuries, the leopard came out and the villagers beat the big cat to death. Its two cubs probably escaped.”
