Lawyer beaten to death over land dispute
Lucknow: A 67-year-old senior lawyer associated with the Allahabad high court was allegedly beaten to death in Gonda district following a violent clash over a land dispute.Three of his family members, including his son and 2 nephews, were also seriously injured in the attack.
Subhash Chandra Mishra was a resident of Sudai Purwa village under the Karnailganj Kotwali area. He was a senior advocate and also served in the Awadh Bar Association.According to police and family members, the dispute pertained to approximately 9 bighas of agricultural land. The lawyer recently secured a favourable court verdict in the matter and reached the field on Sunday to begin ploughing with a tractor.The opposing party, led by Harisharan Mishra, arrived at the scene along with 15–20 associates armed with sticks and sharp weapons and launched an attack. When Mishra's younger son, Anurag Mishra, and nephews, Akash Mishra and Vishwas Mishra, intervened, they were also brutally assaulted.The injured were initially taken to a community health centre and later referred to Gonda Medical College, where Subhash Chandra Mishra succumbed to his injuries during treatment.Police said multiple teams, along with forensic experts, visited the crime scene and collected evidence. Security was tightened in the village to prevent further tension.ASP (West) Radheshyam Rai said an FIR was registered against four named accused based on a complaint by Vishwas Mishra.
