ALLAHABAD: Chief minister Mayawati on Wednesday upgraded the law faculty of the Allahabad University and named it as Baba Saheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Law University.
This will be states'' first law university. Addressing the gathering on the occasion of the 116th foundation day celebrations of UP legislature at the State Public Library, she also announced several sops for the city and university as well.
She declared that B Ed classes in the university would begin soon.
She also renamed Victoria Memorial as Chandra Shekhar Azad Memorial and garlanded the statue of Azad with governor Vishnu Kant Shastri.
She declared that a life-size marble statue of Azad would be installed at the venue.She also announced construction of ''sahitya bhawan'' with a seating capacity of 900 people with an investment of Rs 3 crore.
Categorically stating that no office would be shifted from Allahabad to Lucknow during her tenure, Mayawati came down heavily on the information deparment for glaring lapses in the documentary film produced by the department.
She took umbrage at the fact that the name of Ram Prakash Gupta was not included in the list of former CMs and her tenure was mentioned only twice whereas she has become chief minister for the third time. She also called for better coordination and mutual respect among the four pillars of democracy.
Responding to the demands for a separate Bench of the Allahabad High Court in UP and Central status to Allahabad University, she passed on the buck to the Union government.
