Lucknow: The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad high court on Tuesday dismissed a plea of the Kanpur university vice-chancellor Vinay Pathak seeking quashing of an FIR lodged against him in a corruption case.
In its order, the bench said that the FIR and material brought on record before it disclosed commission of cognizable offences against Pathak and hence it could not be quashed and accordingly, he could not be given protection from arrest by STF. The bench of Justices Rajesh Singh Chauhan and Vivek Kumar Singh passed the order on the petition of Pathak.
The bench, however, said that it was open for Pathak to approach the court below seeking anticipatory bail, and if such a plea was moved, it would be decided expeditiously without granting unnecessary adjournments to any party.
Pathak had challenged the FIR lodged against him for taking a cut of Rs 1.41 crore in order to clear the bill of a private company.
