KGMU carries out liver transplant surgery
Lucknow: A 35-year-old patient with liver cirrhosis underwent liver transplant surgery at King George's Medical University (KGMU) on Monday.The liver was provided by the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) after harvesting it from a brain-dead patient.

The patient, Sandeep Kumar (43), was a victim of a road accident. His family has consented to donate organs. As no matching liver recipient was at SGPGI at that time, the harvested liver was sent to KGMU where 35-old Ravindra Pratap Singh was found fit for the organ transplant. The surgical gastroenterology department carried out the transpact procedure from Sunday evening till Monday morning. Doctors said the patient has been removed from the ventilator and his vitals are stable. Vice-Chancellor Prof Soniya Nityanand monitored the entire process. She described the decision of the donor's family as inspiring.
