LUCKNOW: Contradictory statements by jailed brother duo and two sharp-shooters, whom they had allegedly paid for murder, has only served to confuse police. The jailed brothers, Sumit Dixit and Amit Dixit, had allegedly given contract money for elimination of CMO Dr Vinod Arya to two sharp-shooters, who were arrested by SOG on December 12. Police had taken the brothers on remand after a permission to interrogate them for 24 hours was given by the court.
However, what has given cops some relief is the fact that Amit told the police that he was in touch with mafia don Abhay Singh before the latter landed behind bars. Sources also confirmed that Amit told the cops that Abhay had asked him to get Dr Arya eliminated. However, he failed to reveal the motive behind Abhay wanting Dr Arya to be eliminated.
Initially, police believed that both Sumit and Amit were in touch with Abhay and he got eliminated Dr Arya through them.
Earlier, on December 21, the police had failed to get anything concrete from both after the investigation officer recorded their statements in jail.
To recall, the special operation group (SOG) of DIG, Lucknow had arrested two sharp-shooters who were claimed to be involved in the murder of Dr Vinod Arya, a chief medical officer posted at family welfare department, on October 27. Dr Arya was on a morning walk, along with his pet dog, when the miscreants shot him dead just in front of Rani Laxmi Bai School in Sector 14, Vikasnagar, a few metres away from the doctor's house.
The two sharp-shooters were identified as Vijay Dubey and Ajay Misra. However, as per their statement, it was Sudhakar Pandey, who actually shot dead Dr Arya, while they accompanied him. The sharp-shooters had taken the name of Sumit and Amit and had claimed that it was they who actually gave contract to kill Dr Arya at the behest of mafia don, Abhay Singh.
Interestingly, the police had then claimed quoting the two sharp-shooters that mafia don, Abhay Singh had given the contract of Rs 5 lakh to Sumit and Amit Dixit to eliminate Dr Arya. However, Amit, during the police interrogation on Saturday and Sunday, denied Abhay giving money to them and claimed that by the time money could be given, Abhay had landed behind bars and thus he lost connection with him. Amit confessed to his contact with Abhay, SP (trans-Gomti) Happy Guptan confirmed, but refused to give any further details about the interrogation.
