Lucknow: A women-only study centre of Ignou has been established at Awadh Girls' Degree College (AGDC). The centre will start functioning from the academic session beginning this July. With 19 academic programmes, the centre will also be running four Masters' degree courses in English, anthropology, philosophy and rural development. This is the second regular study centre of Ignou for
women
after the one at Netaji
Subhash Chandra
Bose Government PG College.
Ignou regional director Manorama Singh said the courses were introduced after after a two-week awareness programme and
feedback
from AGDC students and teachers. "Short-term courses, including creative writing, tourism studies, NGO management and translation studies have also been added," she added.
Principal Upma Chaturvedi said, "Students will now be able to pursue short-term courses along with their undergraduate course. For those interested in taking up masters', they can do it through Ignou in the college."
AGDC teachers will be academic counsellors for students and dean of students Ratna Watal the centre's coordinator.
"The centre will also introduce a PG diploma in folklore and cultural studies," said Ignou assistant regional director Anshuman Upadhyaya.
