Honour killing: Man kills niece

Lucknow: In what appears to be a case of honour killing, police arrested a man on Saturday in

Gosainganj

for killing his niece after she married a man of a different caste against her family's wishes.

The accused,

Ram Kishore

, admitted that he had killed his niece

Sarojini

alias

Saroj

as she had brought disgrace to his family. As per police reports, Saroj had been married earlier but she left her husbandas things didn't work out between the two. After some time, Saroj's parents got her married again. However, the couple ended up divorcing each other.

Later, Saroj met

Santosh Rawat

, a resident of Gosainganj, and the two had an affairwhich subsequently became the talk of the town. Despite opposition from her family, she and later the couple got married to Santosh. When

Ram Kishor

came to know about the marriage, he tried to persuade Saroj to walk out of her marriage with Santosh, Ram Kishore pleaded that her cat had brought stigma to the family pride. but she stood her ground. An infuriated Thereafter Ram Kishor strangled her to death. on finding her all alone at her house.

He then dumped her body at roadside in Gosaiganj. He even tried to burn the corpse to hide her identity. However, he fled leaving the body half-burnt near the crime scene, after he got nervous at the sight of some passers-by.
