LUCKNOW: Hiring professional killers to eliminate his estranged wife and her lover cost the man his son, who was murdered by the assassins in a fit of rage over a dispute related to advance payment for the contract.
The police on Friday arrested four accused and recovered the murder weapon within 24 hours of Anjani Sahu lodging a complaint regarding the murder of his son, Vinayak Sahu.
A special investigation team was formed under senior police officials, which conducted an on-site inspection and collected evidence. With assistance from the Surveillance Team, the police, acting on a tip-off, arrested four accused near Omaxe Metro City Underpass (Kisan Path) on Friday.
The arrested persons are Shivam Rawat (20), Ashish Kumar (21), Amir Alam (22), and Shiva Rawat (20). The police recovered the murder weapon, a blood-stained knife, based on the accused's confession.
DCP Singh said that during interrogation it was revealed that Vinayak Sahu and his father, Anjani Kumar, allegedly hired the accused to kill Vinayak's mother, Shanti Sahu, and her second husband, Imran.
Shanti left Anjani to live with Imran, which prompted the father-son duo to plan revenge. Vinayak promised to give an auto-rickshaw to Amir and Ashish and a sum of Rs 2.5 lakh to Shivam and Shiva for the murder.
On March 5, when the accused demanded an advance of Rs 1.5 lakh, Vinayak refused, leading to an altercation. During the argument, Vinayak allegedly threatened to kill them all. Under the influence of alcohol, the accused stabbed Vinayak in the neck, killing him instantly.
The DCP said that police recovered two empty beer cans (Kingfisher brand), a blood-stained knife with its wrapper, a pair of slippers, two active Android mobile phones, a blood-stained cloth (Gamcha), blood samples collected using cotton swabs, broken glass bottle fragments, two disposable glasses, two blood-stained gloves, and a fingerprint card, which gave crucial leads about the presence of people on the spot and finally led to their arrest.
