Lucknow: The greed to grab the mobile phone of the man whose head he had chopped off a little earlier helped the police nabbed the killer within six hours of the discovery of the headless body in Gudumba on Saturday.

The accused, Shrikant, had killed his ‘friend’
Narendra Singh Chauhan, chopped off his head and dressed his body in his own clothes to show that it was actually ‘Shrikant’ who had been killed.
Shrikant, who is already on the run in an old rape case, had killed Narendra because they both were in a relationship with the same woman, who was the wife of their common friend. All three are painters.
Narendra’s decapitated body was found from a vacant plot in
Gudamba
on Saturday, two days after the murder.
Another senior officer privy to the probe said that both the accused and the deceased worked with the same contractor and lived together.
“When the police team went to the contractor to enquire about the deceased and asked who was the one residing with him, the contractor told about Shrikant,” said the police.
Thereafter, when he was frisked, a mobile phone was recovered which was examined and it turned out to be of deceased Narendra. Later, Shrikant gave in and spilled the beans.
