Five kids drown in Gonda

FAIZABAD: Five children drowned in a canal in Karnailganj tehsil of Gonda on Tuesday afternoon.
Six children, between 10 and 12 years, had gone for a swim in Chanda canal. Since the canal was in spate due to continuous rains, the children were swept away by the strong stream of water. However, one of them, Babu (11) managed to swim to safety.
The deceased were identified as Rinku (10), Mukesh (12), Ranjana (12), Archana (10) and Subhash (10).All the children belonged to Gonva village of Karnailganj tehsil.
The children were students of a local government school. Gonda district magistrate Ram Bahadur said a relief team was rushed to the canal but the children could not be saved. Later, divers fished out the bodies.
