FIR against Telegram channel for duping aspirants on pretext of providing exam papers
Lucknow: Ahead of the Uttar Pradesh Home Guards recruitment examination, police have registered an FIR after a Telegram channel was found allegedly attempting to defraud candidates by falsely claiming access to the question paper.
During surveillance, officials detected a Telegram channel named 'Exam Paper Wallah’, where a message circulated under the username 'Paper_Mafiya' claimed that the 'UP Home Guard paper' was available before the actual examination. The channel allegedly misled aspirants by promising access to the question paper in exchange for money.
According to the complaint filed by inspector Rajesh Kumar Upadhyay at Hussainganj police station, the channel also shared a QR code to collect payments from candidates, indicating a planned attempt to cheat using digital platforms.
Officials said the act involved misuse of computer networks to fraudulently obtain money and disrupt the integrity of a govt examination. Authorities also noted that such messages created confusion and anxiety among candidates.
Police have launched an investigation to trace the operators of the Telegram channel. Inspector Shiv Mangal Singh said efforts are underway to identify those behind the scam and take strict legal action.
The recruitment board has urged candidates not to fall prey to such fake claims and to rely only on official sources for exam-related information.
