LUCKNOW: Two persons supposedly a husband and wife conned an up-market jewellery showroom in Hazratganj area of a heavy gold chain, while replacing the same with a light weight chain.
It was a bright afternoon on December 2, when two persons posing as husband and wife entered Tanishq showroom in Hazratganj. The woman handed over gold jewellery to the girl on the counter telling her that she wanted to exchange it with other jewellery.
The girl on the counter came back after weighing the jewellery and told the estimated cost of the jewellery.
The duo however, showed their dissatisfaction on the costing of the jewellery and left the showroom.
On December 6, when weekly stock checking was going on that the staff noticed that the weight of the total gold chain available with them was less than what it should have been. Strangely, the number of pieces with the chain counter, however, matched the stock.Amid confusion for a few more days, the showroom manager then decided to closely monitor the close-circuit television footage. To their surprise, they noticed a man and a woman clearly visible exchanging the heavy gold chain present at the chain counter with that of light weight gold chain.
It was after this that the manager of the showroom Anoop Kumar Agrawal on Wednesday approached Hazratganj police and lodged an FIR against the two persons.
Anoop later talking to TOI said that since the number of chains at the chain counter did match the stock availability register, the staff was confused over the difference in the weight of the gold chains at the counter and the stock record."We finally caught a man and woman who had on December 2 posed as husband and wife exchanging the heavy gold chain with the light one when the counter girl had gone to weigh the gold jewellery they had given," Agrawal said.
The duo had kept a gold chain worth 3.69 gram at the chain counter and had taken away a gold chain worth 39.08 gram. Senior police officials have been apprised of the act, Anoop told TOI. .
