Lucknow: Diwali celebration started early in the city as India beat Pakistan in its first match in the World Cup, on Sunday .
At Rajajipuram mini stadium a bunch of under-14 players were seen in blue jerseys holding the Tricolor and chanting ‘India, India’. Arav (12) said he had been eagerly waiting for thematch. Another budding player Aviral said that he especially wore a blue jersey on Sunday as he wanted to cheer for his team. “I have a dream to play for my country one day,” he said with a smile.
Some senior cricket lovers had assembled at the ground of Sahara Estate to play a friendly match as well as to enjoy the Indo-Pak tie. One among them, Sunil, who works in a private company, said that it was a great victory for India. Expressing similar views, another sports lover Sajid said he too enjoyed the match. “It was a great victory for us,” he added.
Lucknow markets, which witnessed a comparatively thin crowd due to the match on Sunday afternoon, saw a huge rush in the evening after the nail-biting thriller.tnn
