LUCKNOW: Chancellor of stateuniversities Vishnu Kant Shastri on Tuesday nominated Shahibul Hasnain, standingcounsel for Union of India and Government of Uttar Pradesh, along withDayashankar Singh, secretary Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha and formerLucknow University student leader, as the member of the Executive Council (EC)of the Lucknow University for a two years tenure. Dr PK Sharma has also beennominated for the EC.
This will be the third stint for Hasnain in the LU ECas he had earlier been elected twice for the coveted post. Singh in turn hasbeen a student leader associated with the ABVP and had occupied variousstudent’s union posts. He shot into fame after successfully contesting theelection for LUSU general secretary from jail on charges of murder. He was lateracquitted.
Out of total 20 members, three posts of EC are filled throughnomination by the chancellor from among people of ‘repute’ and‘prominence’.
The nomination of Singh, thus, was a surprisefor many on the campus.
Meanwhile, (Retd) Justice AN Gupta has beennominated for the EC of Meerut University, (Retd) Justice Kamleshwar Nath and DrHari Om Gupta have been nominated for the EC of the Bundelkhand University,Jhansi, and Prof SK Joshi, director National Academy of Science, has beennominated for Allahabad University.
