Dalit youth murdered in Amethi, 2 held

Lucknow: A 20-year-old Dalit youth was murdered at a poultry farm in UP's Amethi on Monday night. He was attacked with a sharp weapon and had multiple injuries on head. The victim was identified as Shivam Kori. Police arrested two accused — Vikas Yadav alias Suraj (38) and Maan Singh (40) — on Tuesday and recovered the murder weapon from the bushes near the crime spot. An FIR was lodged against 10 people, including four named accused, based on the complaint lodged by the victim's father.Amethi SP Aparna Rajat Kaushik said Shivam's father, Chhotelal Kori, a resident of Jamo, alleged his son was taken to a poultry farm run by Ritesh Singh, where he was attacked with sharp-edged weapons by four men — Vikas Yadav, Maan Singh and two unidentified men.Shivam was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. A case was registered under sections of murder, conspiracy, and Section 3(2)(v) of the SC/ST Act against the named accused, said the SP. Kaushik added that a police team led by CO Gauriganj Akhilesh Verma and SHO Vinod Kumar Singh arrested Vikas and Maan from Zoravarpur turn.Kaushik said during interrogation Maan Singh confessed that Shivam had been harassing his daughter for the past seven months and an FIR was also lodged against Shivam. "Despite the FIR, Shivam continued to harass my daughter. So I conspired with Vikas to eliminate Shivam," Maan told the police.As per the plan, Vikas lured Shivam to Ritesh's poultry farm and made him consume alcohol. After Shivam was drunk and lying on a cot, Vikas informed Maan Singh, who arrived from a nearby farm carrying a sharp edged weapon. He then struck Shivam multiple times, killing him on the spot."The arrests were made based on eyewitnesses and an informer's tip-off. We are searching for other accused," the SP Amethi said.
