LUCKNOW: In a strange incident that came to light on Monday, a sub-inspector deployed at a police station in the Old City here was suspended on charges of encroaching upon the police station land for personal gain. He was also accused of selling that part of land to a third party.
The man accused of the charges is sub-inspector Nathu Singh who, before being suspended, was deployed at Saadatganj police station.
Nathu's house is just behind the Saadatganj police station and he allegedly encroached around 2 feet land of the police station by constructing a wall on that part.
When the police officials came to know about the encroachment they inquired the sub-inspector about the reason behind it. SP West Paresh Pandey said that in his reply the sub-inspector said that he did it as the wall of the police station was weak and could have collapsed any day leading to a mishap.
According to Pandey the replies of the sub-inspector were not satisfactory and there were doubts that he did this for taking a personal benefit from the property.
When the incident was reported to the district police chief NK Srivastava he ordered for the suspension of Nathu Singh and instituted an inquiry into the matter, to be conducted by Paresh Pandey.
However, what has even raised a finger on the Saadatganj police was the delayed action. None of the police officials were able to explain why till now nothing was done when the area was encroached for the past some days now.
