In his statement to the police late on Wednesday evening, the boy said the girl had told him that she was beating him to get the school to close early.
"A didi with boy-cut hair called me, saying a teacher had asked for me. She took me to the bathroom and slapped me. Then she attacked me with a sharp object," Sharma said in his statement to the police.
The police are questioning a 12-year-old class VI girl student of the school in the matter, after she was identified by the victim with the help of a photograph.
"He was attacked by a girl student of class 6 with a knife used to chop vegetables. We have sent the hair of the girl, found on the body of the child, for DNA test. She will be presented before Juvenile Justice Board. The Principal has been arrested," ANI quoted Lucknow SSP Deepak Kumar as saying.

Kumar added that the purported weapon had been recovered.
The incident, which took place at Brightland Inter College school on Tuesday, came to light only after authorities at KGMU authorities told the media. Initially, the school had informed the boy's parents that he had met with an accident.
The victim sustained injuries in the chest and abdomen and was locked inside the toilet by the girl. His cries were heard by a teacher who found him in a pool of blood and his mouth stuffed with a cloth.
