LUCKNOW: Burglars struck at the house of special secretary and additional legal representative (judicial) of
Uttar Pradesh government, equivalent to district judge, in Vikas Khand 5 of Gomtinagar, on late Sunday night and decamped with Rs 2 lakh in cash and jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh.
Police said that the judge,
Anil Kumar Upadhyay had gone to
Mathura
along with his family to attend some religious function while his tenant
Tarun Arora had gone to his home in Kanpur.
The house in the posh and highly-secured colony of Lucknow was locked from outside. On Monday morning, the tenant Arora got a call from a neighbour M N Purai who informed him about the theft. "I was told that the doors of the house were lying open and flower pots and other articles were broken. I reached Lucknow and found that cash and jewellery was missing from my rooms. I informed my landlord about the theft," Arora told police.
Arora said added that all doors in the house had been broken while cupboards and almirahs had been ransacked. SHO Gomtinagar Triloki Nath Singh said that it appears that there were two to three burglars. "It appears that the burglars scaled the gate and then entered the ground floor by breaking the door and entered the judge's home. They later went upstairs and burgled Arora's portion. It could be the handiwork of some insider also because all the specific spots where cash or valuables were kept have been targeted," added Singh.
