Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh claims son will win Kaiserganj seat by huge margin

Kaiserganj: Sitting BJP MP from Kaiserganj Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh on Monday exuded confidence that his younger son and saffron party candidate Karan Singh will win the seat by a huge margin.

"Karan will bring down SP candidate Bhagat Ram Mishra in a fall (a term used when a freestyle wrestler is able to pin his opponent to the ground to claim victory)," said the former chief of WFI after casting vote on Monday.

The entire Singh family, including Karan, his elder brother and Gonda MLA Prateek, mother Ketaki, cast their vote at a local school near the family's village Vishnuharpur in the morning hours. The BJP had replaced Brij Bhushan with his son Karan as Kaiserganj candidate following charges of sexual harassment levelled by some of the country's top female wrestlers.

Meanwhile, SP candidate Mishra said: "No matter what people have been claiming, I can assure you that deposit of the all the opponents would be forfeited on June 4. Results are going to be extremely surprising." Refuting that he was worried about the 'dabdaba' (influence) of Singh, a local strongman, Mishra said the 'monarchy system' was over a long time ago and voters were freely coming out in large numbers in his support.

Polling took place in the constituency which is spread over three assembly seats in Gonda and two in Bahraich.

The constituency recorded a turnout of about 55.50% (till the time of filing the report). Among the five assembly segments, highest turnout was recorded in Payagpur (57.38%) and Kaiserganj (56.63%) in Bahraich while Colonelganj in Gonda witnessed lowest participation (52.62%).
