MEERUT: A ninth class student has sought the help of former Union minister and noted animal activist Maneka Gandhi to save the life of a police horse, who has been rendered ‘unfit’ for the police force.
In a letter faxed to Maneka, Vani Sharma, student of a local JP Academy School here, said the police force had decided to ‘poison’ the 23-year-old horse Vikas if nobody came forward to purchase it.
The ‘death warrant’ of the horse, which served the mounted force of Meerut police, has been forwarded to the Director General of UP Police.
The UP Police headquarter has the right to take the final decision on the same, said Inspector General of Police DC Sabarwal, when contacted.
Meanwhile, Sharma told mediapersons here that she was also approaching the state animal husbandry minister LK Bajpai with the request of ‘terminating the death warrant of the police horse.’
