Baghpat set to be global yoga, wellness hub

Lucknow: With the upcoming International Yoga and Wellness Centre, Baghpat is set to emerge as a hub for yoga training, research, certification and global wellness programmes, said attendees who gathered at the UP tourism department stakeholder consultation exercise here on Friday.Strategically located near NCR and backed by improving connectivity, including the Noida International Airport, the project is being positioned to attract both domestic and international visitors, as well as major private players in the wellness and hospitality sectors.Sharing details about the consultation, an official spokesperson said: “The master plan for the over 150-acre campus will be refined to align with global standards while remaining rooted in Indian traditions. The project, estimated at around Rs450crore, is expected to open up opportunities for investment, specialised operations and long-term partnerships.”The proposed centre will feature large yoga arenas, meditation halls and a 200-bed healthcare facility, along with accommodation options catering to both short-term visitors and long-duration wellness participants. Retreats, workshops, cultural programmes and satvik cuisine are being planned to create a holistic visitor experience.Officials said the initiative reflects a growing focus on preventive healthcare and well-being in the post-pandemic era. The project is also expected to boost tourism in western UP by linking wellness with nearby religious and cultural sites.With rising global interest in yoga and holistic living, authorities see Baghpat’s transformation as a step towards positioning UP on the international wellness map.
