Muzaffarnagar: Ahead of Lok Sabha elections, Muzaffarnagar police on Friday busted an illegal arms manufacturing unit as a part of its crackdown on illicit weapons suppliers.

During the raid, four people were arrested for their involvement in illegal arms trade across the country. During interrogation, the accused revealed that the weapons were to be sold for use in the upcoming polls, officials said. This is the second such unit that has been raided in the last two days.

Senior superintendent of police, Abhishek Singh, said, “Based on a tip-off, a team including SP city, CO city and Kotwali police carried out a raid in which four people were arrested. Further investigation is being conducted on the information provided by them.”

The accused have been identified as Danish, Javed, Shamshad and Taslim (first names available). Another accused, Waseem, is on the run. A total of 22 illegal weapons, including revolvers and country-made pistols, welding machines, milling machines and other types of equipment for making illegal weapons were seized. A case under relevant sections has been registered, police said.
