KANPUR: A daring yet bizarre burglary in Kanpur's Mandhana locality has left authorities perplexed. Thieves broke into the home of Indian Air Force (IAF) Sergeant Bharadwaj Yadav, making off with cash, his service uniform, and official ID card. However, in a surprising twist, they returned 48 hours later and put back his uniform and ID card.
Police have launched a probe into the case and are examining CCTV camera footage, which captured the entire sequence of events. The footage showed an individual in the house on Friday night, when Sergeant Yadav was in another wing of the building. The break-in appeared well-planned, with the perpetrators knowing the layout of the house.
However, it was what transpired Sunday night that left the investigators puzzled — the accused returned to the same house and carefully placed the stolen uniform and ID card on the rooftop.
ACP Ranjit Kumar's team is actively pursuing various leads to identify the suspects. Police are particularly concerned about the audacious nature of the criminals, who not only committed the burglary but also risked returning to the scene of crime.
Investigators are examining additional CCTV camera footage from surrounding areas and questioning local informants.
Police have increased night patrolling in the area. The IAF administration has also taken note, given the sensitive nature of service-related documents.
ACP Kumar said arrests would be made soon and the perpetrators brought to justice.
