SHIVPURI: A minor brother-sister duo died and their parents were hospitalised in critical condition after allegedly inhaling poisonous gas from pesticide-treated wheat stored inside their home in Shivpuri district of Madhya Pradesh, police said.
The incident took place late Monday night in Malbarve village under the Pohri police station limits.
Giriraj Dhakad (30), his wife Poonam (28), and their children — Adhik (3) and Manvi (5) — were sleeping in the same room where the pesticide-treated wheat was stored, said Seema Dhakad, in-charge of Bhatnawar police outpost.
Preliminary investigation suggests the children died due to toxic fumes from the grain heap. Their parents were rushed to the district hospital, where their condition remains critical.
Post-mortem of the children has been conducted and the report is awaited, police added.
"Only after the police receive a report, the exact cause of their death will be known," she said, adding that a case was registered and a probe was underway.
