LUCKNOW: As many as eight members of a family died after a sand-laden truck traveling from Kanpur to Hardoi lost control and overturned on a hut in Hardoi.

The incident took place near Chungi Number Two on the Unnao road in the early hours of Wednesday.

Taking cognizance of the Hardoi road accident, chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the bereaved families of the deceased. He directed officials to promptly reach the site and expedite relief efforts and instructed that the injured receive proper medical treatment.

The hut belonged to members of the Nat community, who had set up makeshift homes along the roadside, said the police.

Upon receiving information about the accident, police arrived at the scene and, with the help of local residents and a JCB machine, managed to remove the truck, said police.

The police pulled out bodies of Awadhesh alias Balla (45), his wife Sudha alias Mundi (42), their daughter Sunaina (11), sons Lalla (5) and Buddhu (4), and his daughter, Hero (22), her husband Karan (25) from Kasupet in the Bilgram Kotwali area, and their daughter Komal alias Bihari (5). They were taken to hospital and where doctors declared them brought dead.

Awadhesh's daughter Bittu was injured in the incident and has been admitted to the Mallawan Community Health Center for treatment, the police added.

" We have detained the truck driver, Awadhesh from Chibramau in the Bilgram Kotwali area, and the helper, Rohit from Anang Behta in the city Kotwali area, for further investigation," said KC Goswami, Superintendent of Police, Hardoi.
