3 mths after girl found hanging, 2 students booked for abetment

Lucknow: Three months after a 24-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide after being harassed and blackmailed by two of her coaching classmates in Chinhat, police registered an FIR against the two accused on charges of abetment to suicide. According to police, on Nov 7, the woman was found hanging inside her house. In a complaint filed by her father, it was alleged that the victim was under severe mental stress due to repeated threats from two classmates, identified as Hardik Tripathi and Mahi Raj Tiwari. The victim reportedly informed her mother over the phone, shortly after returning from her coaching class, that she was in a relationship with the two accused. She alleged that both promised to marry her but later began threatening her, claiming they possessed her videos, photographs and WhatsApp chats and would make them public. The threats allegedly left her extremely frightened and mentally disturbed. The victim's father stated that he was unwell at the time of the incident and could not immediately grasp the situation. Later, after finding his daughter's mobile phone in her room, he discovered details related to the accused and their communication with her prior to the suicide. He subsequently approached the court seeking directions for police action.
Inspector Dinesh Chandra Mishra of Chinhat police station said the complainant was summoned with the victim's mobile phone and other evidence. "Statements will be recorded and further legal action will be taken based on the evidence," he said.
