3 killed in crash on Purvanchal e-way in fog

Lucknow: Three labourers were killed and seven others injured after a truck rammed into a pickup vehicle on the Purvanchal Expressway near Sultanpur in dense fog in the early hours of Saturday.The pickup was carrying 14 workers from Rae Bareli to Azamgarh. The pickup hit the median crash barrier and overturned. The truck driver fled after the collision.
The injured workers were taken to a local health facility where doctors declared Ajay Kumar,30, and Kishan Pal, 30, dead and referred the injured to the Ambedkar Nagar District Hospital where Rajoli, 35, died during treatment.7 other labourers sustained serious injuries in the crash. They were identified as Ashok (40), Naresh Pasi (45), Ram Prasad (40), Vinod (40), Dilip (35), Rajesh (40), and Raju (30). All injured victims were initially given first aid at Dostpur CHC and were later referred to the Ambedkar Nagar district hospital due to the severity of their injuries. During rescue work, another accident occurred at the same spot due to dense fog. A second pickup vehicle carrying poultry hit a safety cone placed at the accident site and rammed into the already damaged pickup. The second pickup was heading from Sultanpur towards Bihar.The driver of the second pickup, Salman, a resident of Amethi district, was injured. He was first taken to a local health facility where doctors referred him to the Akbarpur district hospital.District programme manager Ashish Kumar Singh and district in-charge Manoj Kumar Singh coordinated the emergency response with the help of 102 and 108 ambulance services. Dostpur inspector Aniruddh Singh said the bodies of the deceased were sent for postmortem examination and their families were informed. "Further legal action will be taken once a formal complaint is received. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding truck driver," he said. |
