After imposing sweeping tariffs, the Trump administration is now turning its attention to artificial intelligence and the electricity costs behind it. Senior adviser Peter Navarro has questioned why American electricity is being used to power AI platforms such as ChatGPT that serve large numbers of users in India. Speaking on ‘Real America Voice,’ Navarro argued that US-based data centres are increasingly supporting global AI demand, particularly from countries like India and China, and suggested that the issue could invite policy action. A key architect of President Donald Trump’s trade strategy, Navarro has repeatedly taken a tough stance against India, backing steep tariffs and accusing New Delhi of maintaining high trade barriers.
