“We consider it as the

recognition

of our

principled stand

. We will function as a responsible constituent of LDF. We will actively participate in the efforts to uphold secular values,” said INL general secretary Kassim

Irikkur

.

INL was formed on April 23, 1994 after Sulaiman Sait resigned from the IUML in the aftermath of Babri Masjid demolition. Since then the party has been associating with LDF. The prolonged wait to get a berth in the LDF had created problem within the party and affected the morale of the cadres. A group led by P M A Salam returned to the IUML. INL leaders believe that the party can now attract more youth into its fold as the uncertainty has ended.

The National Secular Conference led by P T A Rahim, MLA, will merge with the INL in the coming days. “The state secretariat of the party discussed the merger in our meeting held on Wednesday. The working committee will meet soon to ratify the merger process,” said INL state president A P Abdul Wahab.

The meeting also decided to ensure participation of women cadres of the party in the Women’s Wall programme to be held on January 1.
