IDUKKI: CPI district secretary
K K Sivaraman
on Monday termed power minister
M M Mani
as the messiah of land encroachers in
Idukki. He was responding to the minister's allegation that CPI leaders had taken money from the
Congress to cancel the title deeds of the land owned by Joice George and family in Kottakkamboor.
"Mani must clarify which CPI leader has benefited from the title deed cancellation. As a minister in the state, he should take care while using words against other party members or front. We are challenging him to prove the allegation," said Sivaraman.
"It is
Mani
who is always protecting the interests of land encroachers in the district. With the revenue department beginning land record verification, Mani has been trying to protect the encroachers. If any CPI local leader has collected money from anyone, Mani should reveal the name of the leader," Sivaraman said.
The CPI doesn't interfere in the official decisions taken by the sub-collector. The sub-collector has power to take actions on land-related issues. The CPI doesn't support any land encroachers, said Sivaraman.
M M Mani had made the controversial speech during the inauguration of the newly constructed
CPM area committee office at Kattappana on Sunday. Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan also took part in the meeting. When Mani made the remarks against the CPI, the chief minister had left the venue.
Meanwhile, M M Mani said terming him the messiah of encroachers was a reward for him from the CPI. Speaking at Moolamattam, he added he has not said that K K Sivaraman had collected money for cancelling the title deeds of Idukki MP Joyce George.
"No need to apologize. The CPI can decide whether it wants to continue with the LDF," Mani added.
