KC(M) to seek bifurcation of Malappuram

Malappuram: The district committee of Kerala Congress (M) is going to launch a campaign demanding the

of

Malappuram

district.

A district level leaders’ meet of the party, which will be held on Sunday, will raise the issue as a major highlight along with raising other public issues in the district.

Earlier, Indian Union Muslim League and Social Democratic Party of India had demanded the same and had launched several campaign programmes highlighting it. They demanded to bifurcate the district by forming a new district with Tirur as the headquarter. But, the demand is yet to get major attention from the authorities. The Kerala Congress (M) also demanded the formation of a new district with Edappal as the headquarter.

District president of the party, Mathew Varghese said that the bifurcation will give a major boost to the development of the district. “Considering the population of the 16 assembly segments in the district, formation of new district bifurcating in Malappuram is a necessity,” he said. TNN
