Hartal observed in Vanimel peaceful
Kozhikode: Following the attack on the house of a CPM worker on Thursday night, the CPM observed hartal in Vanimel grama panchayat on Friday. The 12 hour hartal was peaceful.
A 28-year-old youth was injured, as unidentified person’s hurled steel bomb against the house of P Kunhikkannan, a CPM worker. The injured was identified as Saljith (28) son of Kunhikkannan.
The bomb was hurled by a two member assailant gang that reached Parappupara around 10:w30 pm on Thursday.
The veranda of the house caved in and the doors broke following the attack. Saljith who was watching TV in the drawing room suffered injury as the glass panes broke in the explosion.
Situation was tense in the area as the police denied permission for the DYFI activists to take out a protest march on Friday morning. The issue was later settled by party leaders.
Bomb was hurled against two persons on Wednesday night also. The police had also seized 13 bombs including eight steel bombs and three highly potent pipe bombs from Kuruvantheri near Vanimal on Wednesday. The official team had seized 24 galvanized iron pipes also from Kuruvantheri.

We are on high alert in the region following the incidents, said officials with Kozhikode Rural police. The seizure of explosives and bomb hurling incidents are being investigated by a team of officials led by Deputy Superintendent of Police K Ismayil.
The police have started round the clock patrolling in the area. Vehicles are being inspected to check the presence of suspected groups.
The police team also continue raids in search of explosive substances.
