Kozhikode: Police registered a case against T P Chandrasekharan murder case convict Sunil Kumar alias Kodi Suni, 43, for allegedly threatening the prison's joint superintendent. Suni is currently lodged at Central Prison and Correctional Home in Tavanur, Malappuram.
According to the FIR, Suni threatened to kill the officer and his family. In his complaint, joint superintendent said on Dec 11 he asked Suni to remove a thread tied around his hand, which is prohibited under prison rules. Suni allegedly refused, and when the officer insisted, he broke the thread and threw it on the ground.
The next day, Suni was again found with a thread tied around his hand. He again refused to remove it and allegedly threatened to kill the joint superintendent and his family. He also warned that false complaints would be filed against the officer.
Although the incident occurred around a month ago, the prison official lodged a complaint with Kuttipuram police only on Wednesday night.
Suni was booked under BNS Sections 296(a) and 351(2), and Section 81 of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services (Management) Act, 2010.
Suni was shifted from Kannur Central Jail to Tavanur Central Prison in Aug 2025 following reports of misconduct and use of mobile phone after footage surfaced of him and two fellow convicts consuming liquor in front of a hotel at Thalassery while they were returning to Kannur Jail after appearing before the court.
