Kozhikode: Health authorities are awaiting postmortem reports to confirm whether food poisoning caused the death of a seven-year-old girl who died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital on Friday evening.
Kuttippuram-native Lesna was admitted with symptoms consistent with food poisoning. Five other family members, including her mother and sister, were hospitalised at a private facility in Kottakkal after they developed similar symptoms.
Officials from Malappuram health department said they suspected food poisoning but were awaiting the postmortem report. Preliminary findings suggested the child and her sibling may have consumed ice candy that was not properly refrigerated, and authorities were examining whether this could have led to the illness. tnn
