Woman rescued after Bhowanipore balcony collapse

Kolkata: A 56-year-old woman had to be rescued by Kolkata Police’s disaster management group (DMG) after a third-floor balcony of a three-storied building on Ashutosh Mukherjee Road, adjacent to Ramriklal Haralalka Hospital, collapsed on Friday night. Rita Banerjee survived with minor injuries on her hand. There were 12 families at the building when the incident took place. According to KMC officials, the building, around 200 years old, has already been declared unsafe. The families, however, refused to move. Banerjee, who stayed on second floor, was preparing dinner when she heard a rumbling sound. Before she could react, the balcony collapsed. While all others could move to safety, Banerjee was trapped under the debris. tnn

Bhiwandi building collapse: 70-year-old owner booked for negligence

A 70-year-old building owner has been charged with negligence causing death after a building collapsed in Bhiwandi, killing two and injuring five. The accused had illegally constructed two additional floors on the building and had ignored complaints about its dangerous condition. The police have registered an FIR against the owner, Kanij Fatima Abdul Momin, who had rented out the rooms to multiple tenants.

Minor girl dies as school building roof collapses in Cuddalore

A 15-year-old girl died when the roof of a school in Cuddalore district collapsed on her. The incident occurred while the girl was inside the school building watching a temple ceremony. The roof could not withstand the weight of the people standing on it to witness the ceremony. The girl sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital. The Chief Minister, M K Stalin, expressed condolences and announced financial support for the girl's family.
