KOLKATA: A cyclonic circulation near the Bengal coast is likely to bring relief to Kolkata after a week-long spell of hot and humid weather. The weathermen have predicted a rainy week, which will start with thunderstorms on Monday. It may cause 20 to 40 mm rain, they said.

Unlike the month’s previous thundershower spell, which knocked the maximum temperature down 10 notches, the rainy week is not likely to cause a drastic fall in temperatures. “ The bulk of the rainfall is expected on Monday and Tuesday, before fizzling out by weekend,” said Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) scientist, H R Biswas.
While the cyclonic circulation lies at 3.1 km above mean sea level over Gangetic West Bengal, a second system in the Bay of Bengal, a low-pressure area, is likely to take shape by next Wednesday. While the two systems are unrelated and unlikely to converge, the low-pressure is likely to develop further into a depression moving closer to the Bengal coastline by May 24.
