Kolkata: Much to the relief of her admirers, veteran actress
Sandhya Roy has recovered from
Covid-19
. The 80-year-old actress, who had won the 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Medinipur constituency, will be discharged today.
On May 8, she was detected with Covid-19. Roy had a history of fever and cough and was suffering from hypertension and diabetes. On Wednesday, Woodlands MD and CEO Rupali Basu said, “She is doing well and will be going home today.”
Roy had started her career at the age of 16 with Rajen Tarafdar’s ‘Antariksha. Subsequently,

often cast her in mythologicals and as an ideal homemaker. Few can forget her stellar performances in ‘
Ganga
’, ‘Teen Adhyay’, ‘Sansar Simantey’, ‘Baghini’, ‘Phuleshwari’, ‘Dadar Kirti, 'Baba Taraknath', ‘Ashani Sanket’ and ‘Ganadevata’. Roy also made appearances in Hindi films, including ‘Asli Naqli’, ‘Rahgir’, ‘Bandagi’, ‘Pooja ke Phool’ and ‘Jaane Anjaan’.
In 2018, she faced the camera in Anindya Chattopadhyay’s ‘Manojder Adbuth Bari’. “It was my privilege when Sandhya-di agreed to work in my film. She is committed to cinema. She comes from a school of film-making where actors completely rely on whatever the director says. Despite her age, she was so dedicated to the work. I am so happy that she has recovered and is returning home today,” Chattopadhyay said.
