VB VC writes to Amartya lawyers over ‘phone call’

Bolpur: Visva-Bharati vice-chancellor Bidyut Chakraborty on Tuesday wrote to economist Amartya Sen’s lawyers that in “June/July 2019” he had received a call from a person’s cell phone on which Sen had spoken with him.

The VC claimed that by approaching relevant telecom authorities it could be conclusively settled who had spoken to whom.

On Monday, Sen had written to Chakraborty and asked him to immediately withdraw the false allegation that a plot of land owned by the university was unlawfully occupied by him.

The VC urged Sen to prove facts based on technological advancements instead of continuing this “hostile crossfire of emails and statements”.
