KOLKATA: The body of sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, who died in Mumbai following a prolonged illness, has been brought to the city.

KOLKATA: The body of sitar maestro Ustad Vilayat Hussain Khan, who died in Mumbai following a prolonged illness, has been brought to the city tonight for last rites.
Vilayat Khan, who was suffering from diabetes and hyper-tension for long, was recently detected with lung cancer and admitted to Mumbai''s Jaslok Hospital on February 26 where the end came at 11.25 pm yesterday, family sources said.

One of the greatest sitar player of his generation, Vilayat Hussain Khan was 76 and is survived by two wives, sons Shujaat Hussain Khan and Hidayat Khan and daughters Yaman Khan and Zila Khan.
Begum Subeida, wife of the sitar maestro, and his two sons Shujaat and Hidayat accompanied the body from Mumbai in an aircraft and it was received at the N S C Bose International Airport by the state government officials and his disciples.
The burial will take place at Gobra-III cemetry here tomorrow as he wished to be buried in the city where his father had also been buried, family sources said.
Before the burial, the body will be kept at Nandan- Rabindra Sadan cultural complex from 0900 hours to 1100 hours for the people to pay their homage to the great musician, state government sources said.
