Traffic alert for wedding season in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Both Kolkata Police and Bidhannagar Police are holding coordination meetings with banquet halls and guest houses to try and control traffic around these venues on wedding days.

The first to organize this meeting was the Baguiati Traffic Guard under Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate that has over two dozen such facilities. At least two east Kolkata guards too have followed suit.

"In the meeting, the participants were briefed about proper scheduling of the marriages, ensuring that no two marriages processions hit the same stretch of road and venue without supporting infrastructure pre-intimation to the police including a rough head count and vehicle count and regulation of wedding processions and the allied marshalling of vehicles," said an officer from Baguiati.

The development comes in the wake of sudden pressure being felt on the EM Bypass and VIP Road due to the weddings from 7pm. The pressure then spreads across the city's eastern fringes, including the busy Maa flyover and EM Bypass stretching between Parama Island and the Kadapara-Subhas Sarobar crossing, said cops.
