KOLKATA: Tension prevailed in north Howrah on Monday, a day after Howrah mayor Mamata Jaiswal accused
Trinamool Congress supporters of molesting her because she had ordered demolition of a house, part of which had collapsed. Police said they were still trying to track down the accused.
While Jaiswal remained in hospital, Trinamool leaders and supporters staged a demonstration outside her chamber at the Howrah Municipal Corporation (HMC).
The CPM claimed that Sagar Dutta, a staff, was injured. A complaint has been lodged at Howrah police station.
The CPM has called a bandh in Howrah on Tuesday to protest the incident and the Trinamool has threatened to bring out processions. CPM leaders have, however, assured that Howrah station will be kept out of the purview of the bandh.
Members of the West Bengal Women's Commission will meet the mayor on Tuesday.
