KOLKATA: A 30-year-old man was crushed by an oil tanker at Anandapur on Sunday afternoon. The tanker then lost control and fell into a canal. The driver of the killer tanker managed to escape. The victim was later identified as Nabal Mahato, a local resident and contract labourer.Police said at 10.20 in the morning, the oil tanker, heading towards EM Bypass, crushed Mahato, who was standing beside the road.
The driver of the tanker had apparently lost control and run over Mahato. The tanker hit him from behind and fell into the canal along with Mahato. "Although we raised an alarm when we saw the truck rushing towards him, he could not move" said Pratik Das, a bus conductor.
Local residents immediately fished out Mahato and rushed him to hospital, where he was declared dead. The tanker driver managed to escape.
