KOLKATA: A NICED researcher from Assam, whose mother met with an accident a few days ago, a private firm employee, who resigned and has a pregnant wife back home in Guwahati, and several other people from Assam, who have been stuck in Bengal since the lockdown was enforced, have appealed to the Assam government to take them back home.


Director of movements Ashim Kr Bhattacharjee said, “From our end, we sent a few applications to the government on Monday. We are awaiting instructions.”

Pankaj Chakraborty — state project manager for Assam State Disaster Management Authority, which worked with the health department to evacuate students from Kota — said, “We have received several evacuation pleas. We are assessing the number of people and their situation right now.”
