School concert celebrates Bengal’s culture

Kolkata: The annual concert of Sri Ram Narayan Singh Memorial High School, ‘Jhankriti 2025', was held at Kala Mandir auditorium with eminent personalities from the fields of education and performing arts in attendance. The concert's theme, ‘Bengal', celebrated the harmony, diversity and cultural richness of the state. The first day showcased performances by primary section students and was attended by chief guest Mahua Mukherjee, an Indian classical dance exponent, and Keya Sinha, academic director of National Gems Higher Secondary School. The second day, which featured performances by senior section students, had Madhuri Majumdar, author and former teacher-in-charge of dance at Rabindra Bharati University, as chief guest and Rabindra Sangeet singer Manisha Murali Nair as guest of honour.The concert began with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by dignitaries, accompanied by Usha Singh, principal and secretary, Sri Ram Narayan Singh Memorial High School, Simla Street, and Puja Mehra, principal, Sri Ram Narayan Singh Memorial High School, Rajdanga. Performances featured dance, drama, and live music, with special tributes to Salil Chowdhury and Raj Kapoor. Highlights of day one were the dance drama, ‘The Selfish Giant', the ballet recital, and a drama, ‘Pagla Dashu'. Mahua Mukherjee praised the professional production and its message — "be kind, be generous". Keya Sinha called ‘Jhankriti' a "successful result of the students' hard work". The award ceremony recognised young achievers for excellence in academics and co-curricular activities. On the second day, the programme commenced with Durga Vandana and Shiv-Parvati Vandana, followed by thematic performances highlighting Bengal's cultural and historical journey. Puja Mehra presented the annual report, outlining the school's achievements.Senior students impressed the audience with band presentation Jhankar, ‘Chandalika' dance drama, a political satire called ‘Bhed aur Bhediya', and an adaptation of ‘Julius Caesar'. The concert concluded with ‘Aahvan', a dance performance advocating women's empowerment. The school's ICSE and ISC toppers were felicitated with cheques worth up to Rs 15,000.
