siliguri: fourteen ngos of north bengal have submitted a memorandum to the state forest minister, urging him to stop the transformation of the garumara national park bungalow from a beautiful structure to an abandoned dwelling to suit the needs of a new film by aparna sen. speaking for the ngos, animesh bose said, by allowing this, the forest department has set a surprising example.
as per the national park act 1983, no one is even allowed inside the core area of a national park without any research and development work for the department. according to district forest officer (wildlife-ii) raju das, the bungalow had a special status for the people of dooars. das, however, did not disclose the news reported earlier another film unit left the lava forest bungalow without paying the charges and restoring the bungalow to its original condition. this information came from a senior official of the state forest development corporation.
