Pool death: Club under scanner
KOLKATA: Zuri Chakraborty’s father has lodged a complaint with the Tala police station against Tala Sports Ally Club, where the teenager died on Monday while swimming. “What were the trainers doing while she was sinking? It was due to their negligence that we lost our daughter. When clubs admit children they should pay attention to each one of them,” said Shyamal.

According to the club, the pool has 22 swimmers and six trainers. Zuri was under trainer Satishankar Bhattacharya. “The trainer was busy instructing the others when he noticed that the girl was missing. She had drifted some 10 feet away and was found at the bottom of six feet water,” said an office bearer of the club. Police are not suspecting any foul play in the death.

The sisters were normally accompanied to the pool by their mother. But on Monday, Zuri insisted that she could manage on her own.
She was active and had gone on a trekking expedition to Darjeeling in June and was planning another one in December. “She was so fit and so much into sports,” said uncle Shyamal Chakraborty.
