Next 150 days decisive for TMC: Abhishek to 24k workers at meet
Kolkata: Trinamool Congress national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee told party workers on Monday that the next 150 days would be decisive for the party. Speaking at a virtual meeting attended by around 24,000 party members, including senior netas, Banerjee said performance, not connections, would determine who gets tickets in the upcoming elections.
He said the next nine days would be "extremely testing" as TMC members will have to intensify efforts to ensure 100% submission of enumeration forms, which he described as the single-most critical tool against "vote theft".
Banerjee has asked party seniors to fan out across districts to monitor operations and file daily reports, sources said. Firhad Hakim was given charge of Kolkata, Arup Biswas of Hooghly and the two Burdwans, Snehasis Chakraborty of Krishnanagar and Ranaghat, Manas Bhunia of Bankura and Purulia, and Moloy Ghatak of West Midnapore.
On tickets, Abhishek Banerjee said, "No more getting tickets through connections. Look at Mamata Banerjee — she works tirelessly for Bengal. If needed, you must work 15-20 hours a day. Your performance will decide your post — whether MLA, MP, municipality ward or panchayat chief. You must increase votes in your area, even by one."
Banerjee warned party members against a repeat of what he called a "Delhi or Maharashtra-like situation," alleging that the BJP used the EC in these places to influence outcomes.
Exhorting party members to action, he said, "Assume the war has begun. Those who cannot play a fighter's role will not be needed."
He announced a protest march in Delhi and named a delegation of MPs, including Sudip Bandyopadhyay, Saugata Roy, Kalyan Banerjee, Derek O'Brien, and others , to seek a meeting with the chief election commissioner and raise issues linked to the "ill-planned" SIR.
Banerjee also spoke of the poor performance of some BLAs and low form submission in Ballygunge, Entally, Madhyamgram, Kolkata Port, Kashipur-Belgachia, Bongaon South, and Chowringhee, noting that Barasat was performing the worst after Kolkata.
