Kolkata: Union minister of state for panchayati raj Kapil Moreshwar Patil did a U-turn two days after giving a clean chit to the Mamata Banerjee government over running of panchayats in Bengal.
Coming under criticism from his own ilk, Patil made amends to his statement and said: “I have received complaints and learnt that the utilisation certificates for 100 days’ work are not being given. I will speak on this during my next visit after I get the details.”
Addressing the media in south Kolkata on Friday, Patil said he had also received complaints about “corruption” in MGNREGS, adding that he will visit panchayats during his next visit.
BJP national vice-president Dilip Ghosh, who was the most vocal on misuse of the 100-day work scheme, came down heavily on central teams who come to Bengal for assessment. “They come here, make merriment at parties thrown by block development officers and submit reports as the state wants,” he said. tnn
